Q&A with Mike ColemanIn the November, 2005 issue of Desktop Engineering, Mike Coleman, TekSoft CEO, discusses manufacturing trends and how CAM software is adapting to a changing marketplace. Read his interview on the Desktop Engineering website CAMWorks 2006 brings enhanced machining accuracy and efficiency to SolidWorks 2006Scottsdale, AZ - June 24, 2005 — TekSoft, Inc. today announced that CAMWorks 2006 supports SolidWorks® 2006 3D mechanical design software. The latest release of this innovative CAM system includes numerous productivity enhancements for milling and turning as well as improvements to the intuitive user interface that make CAMWorks even easier to use. A SolidWorks Certified Gold Product, CAMWorks is fully integrated into SolidWorks. This integration provides a level of interoperability, data integration and associativity that can significantly speed the time to market for manufacturers. “This integration has many benefits for the user,” according to CAMWorks Product Manager Bruce Wiener. “The same interface is used for engineering design and manufacturing with complex CAM functionality activated seamlessly. Translation of model information is not required and all model data can be used to determine the best machining processes. In addition, when design changes occur, the high level of associativity results in CAMWorks either updating machining data automatically or notifying the user that additional changes are necessary.” “Speed and accuracy are more crucial to product design than ever before,” said SolidWorks Solution Partner Program Manager Brian Houle. “That’s why integration between key applications is indispensable. Engineers need different applications to work together to complete projects. Giving them access to the knowledge-based, feature recognition and associative machining capabilities of CAMWorks directly within the SolidWorks environment helps them become more productive and helps their company stay competitive.” SolidWorks 2006 expands on the software’s legacy of ease of use, design power, and affordability by also providing users with comprehensive drawing tools and new productivity features that will speed the adoption of 3D design around the world. Design engineers will be able to more easily transition from 2D design and experience the speed and accuracy of 3D. For small job shops or large manufacturing companies that have been reluctant to make the move to 3D and solids machining, the innovations in SolidWorks 2006 and CAMWorks 2006 provide the solution to make the task more manageable and the improvements in analysis, design, manufacturing accuracy and productivity will justify the training and expense involved. While TekSoft's standalone ProCAM CAD/CAM system has been a top seller for years, TekSoft is encouraging ProCAM users to make the transition to CAMWorks. To ease the transition, a special low-cost promotion is underway to upgrade from ProCAM to CAMWorks. Packages include the latest ProCAM release, which allows users to balance familiar ways of working with the introduction of new capabilities. In addition to CAMWorks, the packages include an OEM version of SolidWorks with a multimedia training video to reduce training costs plus maintenance for both ProCAM and CAMWorks for one year. Solid modeling and machining is now available at an affordable price to everyone, not just large corporations,” according to Wiener. “Since 1997, the expertise of SolidWorks for solid modeling and TekSoft for CAM automation has resulted in a best in class solution that can reduce manufacturers' production costs and decrease their time to market. SolidWorks 2006 and CAMWorks 2006 are an affordable, easy-to-use combination that should be considered essential in order for a manufacturing company to stay competitive.” About TekSoft, Inc. The Integrated CAD/CAM SolutionIn the May, 2005 issue of Desktop Engineering, Bruce Wiener, CAMWorks Product Manager, discusses the partnership between MCAD vendors (e.g., SolidWorks), and CAM vendors (e.g., TekSoft). He explains how their combined expertise results in a best-in-class solution such as SolidWorks/CAMWorks that can reduce manufacturers’ production costs and decrease time to market. Read his commentary on the Desktop Engineering website TekSoft Releases CAMWorks 2005 Featuring New Mill-Turn ModuleScottsdale, Arizona – April 7, 2005 – TekSoft, an industry leader in developing advanced manufacturing software, has released CAMWorks 2005 featuring a new module for mill-turn with support for C, Y and B axis machining, plus numerous productivity enhancements for milling, turning, and wire EDM. CAMWorks provides state-of-the-art machining capabilities seamlessly integrated into the award winning SolidWorks® 3D mechanical design software. The new CAMWorks Mill-Turn module provides a programming solution for milling and turning on the same machine tool. Mill-turn machines are capable of performing turning and milling operations in a single setup that can reduce machine setups and increase production. CAMWorks Mill-Turn machining cycles are available for C, Y and B axis machining at compound angles and on the Face, ID and OD of a part. “The Mill-Turn module extends the capabilities of the existing CAMWorks system,” said Bruce Wiener, CAMWorks product manager. “The same Mill and Turn features, identified by Automatic Feature Recognition (AFR) and defined using Interactive Feature Recognition (IFR) are supported in Mill-Turn. IFR can be used to define 3-Axis features for Y-axis milling. For cylindrical features that would be machined by C-axis motion, Mill-Turn includes a new Wrapped feature. ” The operations that are generated for features are the same as the current operations in CAMWorks 2.5 Axis Milling, Turning, and 3 Axis Milling. These include automatic roughing, finishing, thread milling and single point (drilling, boring, reaming, tapping) cycles and all Advanced 3 Axis cycles. All machining operations are defined, calculated and verified in the SolidWorks environment. “In addition to the familiar CAMWorks functionality, there is no new interface to learn," continued Wiener. “The short learning curve leads more quickly to increased productivity.” CAMWorks was the first SolidWorks Certified Gold CAM Product and the combination of the latest innovations in CAMWorks 2005 and SolidWorks' excellence in design continue to make CAMWorks a premier CAM and mold machining solution. CAMWorks can be purchased to run with the full version of SolidWorks or as part of a cost-effective package that includes a discounted OEM version of SolidWorks. TekSoft Showcases CAMWorks 2005 at SolidWorks World 5005Scottsdale, Arizona – January 13, 2005 – TekSoft will demonstrate CAMWorks 2005 featuring a new module for mill-turn with Live-C support at SolidWorks World 2005 in Orlando, Florida, January 30 – February 2, 2005. SolidWorks World brings together designers, engineers, managers, and partners to discuss ideas, trends, and the technology shaping the future of mechanical design. “In addition to mill-turn, TekSoft will be demonstrating the latest productivity enhancements in CAMWorks 2005 for mill, turning, and Wire EDM, and also previewing what's coming next in 4/5 axis simultaneous mill machining,” said Bruce Wiener, CAMWorks product manager. Introduced in 1997, CAMWorks was the first SolidWorks Certified Gold Product for manufacturing and the first CAM solution to offer knowledge-based, feature recognition and associative machining capabilities within the SolidWorks environment. “Integrating CAMWorks with SolidWorks means engineers can begin applying manufacturing toolpaths and data directly on the design model. This saves time and helps manufacturers meet tight production deadlines,” said Wiener. The recent acquisition of TekSoft by Geometric Software Solutions (GSSL) ensures that TekSoft will continue to develop, distribute and support CAMWorks to meet the needs of the mold making and machining industries. GSSL, a long-time product development partner with SolidWorks, has had an ongoing business relationship with TekSoft and is TekSoft’s CAMWorks development partner. As part of the acquisition, TekSoft has appointed Michael Coleman as CEO. Coleman, who comes to TekSoft with extensive experience in international sales and distribution management, will be attending SolidWorks World 2005 and will be available to talk with SolidWorks users and resellers.
